Free Summer Movies at the Library

movie-popcornWednesdays at the Movies

11 am:  Lunchin’ at the Movies- These films are rated PG and are usually less than 2 hours.

1 pm:  Snackin’ at the Cinema-These movies are rated PG 13 and usually last 2 hours.

You are welcome to bring your lunch or snacks and get comfy with your blankets & pillows.

The library’s big screen showing of recently released or theme related films, has become an annual fun summer event for Davie County Library patrons. The Youth Services Department tries to schedule films that were based on a book, or that relate to their summer theme!

There is plenty of floor space, or you can relax in chairs. Parents are responsible for deciding if movie content and ratings are appropriate for their family.

Check on, or review the Calendar of Events with the movie schedule – available for download here and at the Library’s Website.

After the movie, stick around and check out a copy of the YA, Elementary or Juvenile Fiction book the movies are based on- because we all know, the book is always even better than the movie!

Everyone Loves Ice Cream!

Summer Ice Cream Party Sponsored by Friends of Davie County Library

The celebration for all the readers who completed the 2014 Summer Reading Program was sponsored by the Davie County Friends group. If you are a friend of Davie County Public Library, you are responsible for all these grins!

Volunteers set up and served ice cream. The kids enjoyed making their own sundaes and then watched as Mr. Short worked his balloon “magic” to make their favorite design for them to take home.

The summer reading program is fostering a love for reading that will last a lifetime and the Friends of the library are proud to be a part of providing a reward for these readers.

We are thankful for the F.O.L. volunteers who came out to help set up, serve and clean up, as well as all of you who support us with your membership and donation dollars!

Celebrate Summer Reading Program

Summer Reading Program – Party!

This week is the last full week of the Davie County Library’s Summer Reading Program “Fizz, Boom, Read!” and the year-end party is about to begin.

The group, Friends of Davie County Library is sponsoring a “make your own sundae” ice cream party on Monday, August 11, 2014 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for all participants of the S.R.P. this year.

“Come with me,’ Mom says.
To the library.
Books and summertime
go together.”
― Lisa Schroeder

We hope that you have all had a wonderful summer and that you are gearing up for a terrific new school year. A sundae party is the perfect way to end the vacation and we hope that you will join us at the Mocksville branch of the Davie County Public library.

If you are an F.O.L. member who would like to volunteer at this event, we will be setting up, serving and cleaning up so please contact us (see the contact form below) and let us know if you want to help.

We always have a great time seeing all the kids’ smiling faces as they celebrate their summer reading accomplishments!
